None of these sites are making thousands online, but the whole point is to setup one of these type of sites or blogs at a time and drive traffic to it until you are making money from it. After it starts making you money then you setup another site. You can keep repeating these steps until you get a sustainable income that you are happy with. So say you have 5 sites averaging $100 per month for you, than that is $500/month. So if you keep building more up each month you could have 10 sites, 20 sites, 50 sites, and 100 sites or more all making you money.

Below the list of four websites I have some resources and tips that you can follow to scale building simple websites into a full time and sustainable income.

Website #1: PlayPiano123.com

This website currently makes around $100/month and has done so for the past 8 months. It is your basic affiliate review site with a few articles reviewing the products and an article about learning to play piano online. This site was promoted with a couple of article submissions to article directories and a press release. Being built on WordPress the site was also optimized well for search engines and the keywords are focused around the product names.

Website #2: InternetLawNewsOnline.com

Another basic affiliate review site here that promotes Website Legal Forms Generator software. This site has brought in pretty consistent side income since it was launched about 2 years ago. This site is run on WordPress.

Website #3: BadRenters.net

This super basic website has made $10 to $15 per month with Google Adsense for the past several years. It was never promoted and only relied on a good targeted keyword rich domain name. It is in a market that is not extremely competitive that doesn’t have a lot of volume, yet it still makes consistent income. Again, you won’t get rich off something like this, but if you have enough sites earning you this each month it adds up.

This site is a very basic HTML site with Google Adsense at the top and bottom.

Website #4: BarnBuddyCheats.com

This website is another simple one monetized with Adsense and it is list building to get people on a list that are interested in playing games on social media. To date this site has generated over 40,000 active email subscribers and in Adsense earnings nets around $90 per month. One thing about this large email list is that they aren’t very responsive to emails. I think a lot of this stems from building a list in a market that targets a game which is mostly played by people who don’t necessarily spend a lot of money. The lesson learned is that you need to know your market spends money before building a list.

As you can see from the pictures below though this site is using the Lightbox Aweber option to put the email sign up offer right in front of the audience. This results in high conversions for this particular niche. The traffic comes from having a good keyword rich domain name and some very minor link building work. You can setup a simple HTML site like this or use the basic WordPress theme. Just find a market and target it.

Simple Way To Scale This Into A Full Time Business

As mentioned previously here are three tips you can follow to make setting up simple websites a full time business for you. There is strength in number. So the more sites you have generating an income for you, the better off you will be.

Tip #1: Find a Product to Promote as an Affiliate

You will want to find a product to promote. This could be a digital product or a physical product like a new HD TV, appliances, makeup, sports apparel, etc. You can find good products to promote by becoming an Amazon.com affiliate, a Clickbank affiliate, by signing up for the Commission Junction affiliate network, or the Share-A-Sale affiliate network.

Don’t over complicate this part of the process. Just find a quality product and see about becoming an affiliate for it. The easiest affiliate programs to get started with are Amazon.com or Clickbank.com. You can also just write a few good articles and drive traffic to a page that has Google Adsense on it as well.

Tip #2: Create Quality Website Content

For your sites you need to be willing to create some decent content focused on the topics you are going after. Don’t stress about having perfect keyword density with your content, just write good content for your readers and the search engines will reward you for it. A few articles will be good to start out with. In the articles and near the end of them make sure to include a call to action for your affiliate link if you are doing that.

If you want to monetize with Google Adsense just create several good articles and drive traffic to it.

Tip #3: Drive Traffic

This part of the process would take several articles to explain, but one of the best first ways to get traffic is to do a press release for your new site. Here is an article I have written on getting press release traffic.

Other traffic generation methods include writing articles and submitting them to article directories (still a viable traffic source for exposure and backlinks), social bookmarking, guest blogging, forums (using your signature line and posting relevant and quality comments), blog commenting (not making garbage comments, but quality ones), creating videos for uploading to YouTube, social media sites out there like Squidoo.com or HubPages.com, etc. You can also spend a little on Google Adwords or MSN AdCenter to drive just a little traffic, but target very specific keywords to keep the costs down and your profits up.

You will want to get a reliable web hosting company that allows you to have multiple domain names, you will want a domain registrar that is trusted and doesn’t charge exorbitant rates, and you will want to look into a quality WordPress theme that gives you multiple options and unlimited site usage. The best way to make money online is to simply take action. As you can see from these website examples they don’t have to be perfect works of art to be profitable. Also, you can’t expect to get rich off just one of these basic affiliate sites, but you can make a decent income with several of them. So build them, promote them until the are making money, and build another one so your website portfolio keeps growing.

Real Estate Investing vs Stock Market Speculation

Wealth building is a matter of perspective and methodology.

Both stock market and real estate investors believe that they understand how to create profits.  But generally speaking, they take quite a different approach regarding the “how to”.

A real estate investor is focused on one thing…cash flow.  Seeking out properties that will provide a constant stream of income is the top priority and with distressed properties still abounding, there is no shortage of cash flow.

On the other hand, stock market investors buy a stock “hoping” it will go up in value, but do not receive monthly income unless the stock pays a dividend (and even if they do, dividend payments can be suspended at any time).

Unlike real estate investors, the stock market investor must become an expert in “market timing” (knowing when to get in and when to get out) in order to maximize any gain that may be realized.

Even then, just knowing when to get in and out isn’t enough.  The investor must possess the tenacity to take action…and actually get in or out.  Unfortunately, 99% of stock investors are simply not disciplined enough to execute at the right time.

Just like a gambler, if a winning streak is occurring, there is great reluctance to get out…until it’s too late and everything is lost.  If a losing streak sets in, the same problem exists…just one more day, one more week…and then it’s too late.  So much for timing.

During the recent real estate bubble, record numbers of people jumped into to the real estate marketplace thinking that they were investing.  Nothing could have been farther from the truth.

They weren’t investing in cash flow properties, they were speculating and gambling.  Some people were lucky and didn’t lose their shirt…most did.
“Real” real estate investors never speculate or gamble. They run the numbers and detach themselves emotionally from the property itself. They are entirely focused on “cash flow”. If the property appreciates…it’s icing on the cake.

To highlight the “investing vs speculating” claim, let’s take a quick look at some numbers.  Numbers do not lie.

On April 5, 1999, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 10,652.  On Sept 30, 2011, the DJ Average was at 10,913.  That’s a whooping 2% gain over a 12 year period.  In other words, $100,000 placed into the market would have produced a $2000 gain.  So, cash flow could be calculated as $13.89 per month.

If the same $100,000 had been invested into a single family rental home with 0% property appreciation, and using nationwide average rents and expenses, the cash flow would have been more than $120,000 or $833 per month.  (For more information about this specific illustration, go to this link: The Lost Decade of Retirement Investing.

Another very interesting tidbit of information is that most Wall Street cheerleaders like to point to the performance of the stock market vs the housing market by comparing stock market gains to owner-occupied housing appreciation. That’s just patently ridiculous. It’s smoke and mirrors…apples and oranges.

When the stock market is compared to investment property (not owner-occupied housing), the results are breathtaking as illustrated above.

So, the next time you’re tempted to buy more stocks or mutual funds, remember…you’re not investing.  You’re speculating.

I saw another one that said “SEO Is Dead!” and it proceeded to promote a Facebook product. Ironically 3 months later this same person released a course on SEO saying it is the only way to get traffic!

Now I understand why they do this because scare tactics tend to work on a lot of people, but the irony of it sickens me. The irony is that email marketing was used to get people to buy into their product on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc. telling you that Email marketing is dead! LOL! Most people don’t catch this and they go buy that product to be hit next month with something that says Facebook is changing so you need to focus on LinkedIn now or some other thing!

The point of my rant here is to say that I think social media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, StumbleUpon, Google Plus, etc.) are all excellent ways to get traffic. The thing I want to caution you from doing is relying on them for your only source of traffic!

This is a warning because Google Plus has recently launched so people will be selling you courses on it. The courses themselves aren’t bad and I have one in the que myself to make, but just be wary of people telling you that you should focus 100% of your attention on it to get traffic or else your business will be doomed!

Read my quote below which is an excerpt from a blogger that I have a lot of respect for. That proves my point right there that email marketing isn’t close to being dead nor will it be going anywhere in the near future!

Further some will argue with me that mobile is going to take away email, but that is a funny argument because nearly every mobile phone out there has a built-in email software program on it! Millions of phone users check email everyday. They may not check from their computer, but they get it on their phones.

If you take anything away from this rant you need a well-rounded marketing approach to your business which includes SEO, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn (if applicable), StumbleUpon, GooglePlus, YouTube, Press Releases, Social Bookmarking, Web 2.0 Content Sites, Article Marketing, other backlinking methods, paid search, and of course email marketing!

The email list will arrive for you if you leverage these other methods! Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket! Be smart and don’t let anyone fool you that the latest craze is the only way to work. The fact is that they all work.

Also, you should still invest in courses on those traffic topics, but buy them with the understanding that you should use them as a piece of an effective online marketing campaign. Not one of those methods will be everything you need to get traffic. Just like paid search slapped people that relied heavily or entirely on it, I a guarantee that Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon will make changes as well. They all eventually do!

So just be careful out there!
